Julie Weber

Julie Weber works in photographic media, but practices her art as durational performance. Using light sensitive materials, she experiments with the nature of image exposure in real time, with an audience present. The resulting works are unfixed photographic images, which will change indefinitely.

Dark Adaptation (January/February 2017) was an installation of unfixed photograms viewed in a darkened room lit by a red light. For short intervals of time, a tungsten light bulb was turned on, exposing the prints to light and thus altering the initial image. The individual images posted below are representative of the initial state. With each interval of tungsten light, the prints gradually faded and darkened. Scored markings that outline the initial composition will remain after the images fully darken..

Images were taken over the course of the exhibition to show the color shift the prints have undergone. This is the final state of the images after 5 weeks of exposures:
